About Wikidata
Wikidata is a collaboratively edited knowledge base hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation. It is a common source of open data that Wikimedia projects such as Wikipedia can use, as well as anyone else, under a public domain license. Wikidata is powered by the software, Wikibase.
As such, when you are looking for a specific dataset or if you want to answer a curious question, it can be a good start to look for that data in Wikidata first. Content loaded dynamically from Wikidata does not need to be maintained in each individual wiki project. For example, statistics, dates, locations, and other common data can be centralized in Wikidata.
